May 17 2013 First Hibiscus

Yesterday we picked up a couple of hibiscus trees for the deck. I had to grab one shot for today's post. We got a red and a pink one this year. They didn't have any yellow ones.

May 16 2013 A rose

The restaurant we went to for Mother's Day gave each Mother a rose. This is Jill's. I used window light with a little fill flash.

May 15 2013 Two tulips

It hit 89 here yesterday the biggest one day increase in termperature we have ever experience in May - 53 degrees. Of course that's the day we had already scheduled to have our air conditioners replaced. You can't win.

May 14 2013 Mother's Day

My wife, our two daughters and four grandkids after brunch on Mother's Day.

The past couple of years I've been using fill flash on these outdoor shots. I set the on camera flash to one stop underexposure and then set the aperture priority shutter sync mode to auto. This way the camera ignores the flash when choosing shutter speed and since I've dialed the flash back to -1 the shot is primarily lit with natural light.

May 13 2013 Our House

Last night we had patchy frost; tomorrow it may hit 90. I'm posting so late in the day that I doubt many will even see this. Just didn't have any time this morning before I had to run out.

May 12 2013 Happy Mother's Day

A picture of my Mom and her three boys on Mother's Day 1952. We lost her in 2004. She taught me all about photography when I was a teenager. We even had a black and white darkroom. (I'm the oldest boy in the back)

Got this one next door. Most of the tulips I'm seeing are past their prime.

Our run of nice weather ended. Back in the 40's.
