Art Hill > June 3, 2009 La Grange Art
Every year our village sponsors a public art project. One year it was elephants, last year it was chairs, another year it was animals. This year it's paintings on easels. At the end of the summer all of the public art is auctioned off to raise money for charities. There are just to many to show them one at a time in a forum like this so I made a collage of a few of my favorites. Shot these yesterday afternoon. I have some of previous years public art here

Art Hill > June 2, 2009 Expect A Miracle
That's the name of this house/estate on Lake Geneva. This was my favorite of the houses we walked by. As I explained on earlier posts there is a public pathway all around Lake Geneva. It crosses all of these fabulous estates. Most of the pathways we walked across were between okay and downright neglected. A little muddy or with some stones missing, etc. This place was quite the opposite. They had a wonderful walkway with art work, sayings and even a guest book. Clearly they welcomed visitors whereas the other places seemed to grudgingly comply with the public path law. Check out this pathway at

Art Hill > May 31, 2009 Stone Manor - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
Continuing on the public pathway across private estates I was able to shoot this from the front lawn
Said to be the largest mansion ever built on Geneva Lake, Wisconsin. Stone Manor (officially Younglands), the 18,000 sq' magnificent Italianate palace with a 250' veranda and an expansive lawn visible from downtown Lake Geneva. The estate was built in 1900-1901 by Otto Young, a man who made his fortune buying real estate along State Street in Chicago following the great fire of 1871. It was constructed for over $1,000,000 and features such as gold-plated fixtures, a basement bowling alley, and a third floor miniature golf course astounded even the wealthiest resident. The property was a single family home until 1939 when it was presented to the order of St. Anne to be used as an Episcopalian private school for girls. The school was discontinued after only a few years. Later the mansion housed an elegant French restaurant Around the 1980's the mansion and remaining property were purchased for back taxes, reportedly for $74,000. It has recently been restored and converted to 6 condominiums ranging in price up to $1.6 million.
Art Hill > May 30, 2009 What a place!
We discovered that one can walk all the way around Lake Geneva on a public path that crosses one fabulous lake estate after another. I felt like I needed 3 shots to show you this one. In fact I needed a 3 image stitch to show you the pier and steps leading down to it. Look at the size of that lawn in the upper left picture. Or how about those steps in the upper right. I'll post a couple more of these places the next few days so stay tuned. We're back now after our 3 day getaway.
Art Hill > May 29, 2009 Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
The weather finally improved so we got a cup of coffee after dinner and sat by the lake. This is a shot of the Riviera and boat docks.
Art Hill > May 28, 2009 Last Tulip
Most of the tulips are gone near us but I caught this one over the weekend.
We left for Lake Geneva yesterday morning so I'm posting from the hotel. Weather was so foul yesterday that I didn't take any pictures. Cold and rainy. Today the rain is gone so maybe I'll get something.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my post yesterday.
Art Hill > May 27, 2009 Amy
We combined Memorial Day and a birthday party for my oldest daughter Amy. We got together at my youngest daughter's house. We're trying to remember at these get togethers to have somebody take my camera and get a picture of me - at least to record the fact that I was there. Amy's birthday isn't until this Saturday.
It would not be possible to love someone more than I love Amy. She is unbelivably good at everything she does and is a fantastic Mother to my two little grandsons. We have always had a great realtionship - even during the teenage years. She is just a truly wonderful human being.
