Art Hill > November 17, 2009 Salt Creek - Oak Brook, Illinois
Haven't picked up my camera in days. Shot this last Thursday near Graue Mill.
We brought Lori home from the hospital around 4:00 yesterday so maybe things will return to a little less hectic. While we were waiting for the sign-out papers I showed her all the wishes, prayers and good thoughts from all of you. It made her feel pretty good. Thanks so much.
Art Hill > November 16, 2009 Get Well Wishes to Lori
We thought Lori was getting better yesterday but around 5:00 she started feeling pretty bad. Hopefully today will be better. She was hoping to leave the hospital today to get home and be with those two little girls.
I shot this in St. James Park in London.

Update: Lori is coming home this afternoon. Will still need to be on antibiotics for a couple of weeks but she is excited to leave the hospital.
Art Hill > November 15, 2009 As Fall becomes Winter
The outdoor dining area at Millennium Park in Chicago has been transformed into a skating rink once again.
Lori was put in the hospital yesterday with pneumonia which was the result of swine flu. So no comments from me yesterday or today. She's doing okay but it scares you when they start with the CT Scans and MRI's. I guess parents always worry.
Art Hill > November 14, 2009 Ya can't beat city hall
I was shocked and dismayed yesterday to see this sign at State and Madison in the center of the city. I checked the website when I got home and found that the city has four full time photographers taking pictures of Chicago. They sell them on (are you sitting down?) on smugmug.
I think this is a real blow to local photographers. The site has wonderful photos of all the important scenes in Chicago. The city has taxpayer dollars to pay the photographers, create signs and run this business. So they have no profit motive and don't charge much for the pictures. I think I could make a living if somebody would put signs up like this one (but advertsising my work) all over the downtown area.
What do you think? Is this a proper thing for a taxpayer funded city department to do?

Update: I appreciate the suggestion that I try to become one of their photographers but there are two problems :-) I am not looking for a full time job. Even if I was, the hiring process in Chicago is so highly politicized that you have to be very well connected and I'm not. I would guess that all four photographers are relatives of administration officials, if not Daly himself.
Art Hill > November 13, 2009 In Memory of My Mom
We lost her 5 years ago today. We were close and she only lived a mile from us.
I've been in a creative slump this week anyway. I almost posted this picture
http://arthill.smugmug.com/Photography/November-2009/10303659_P2QQE/1/#711958736_NKtxF-A-LB
but decided to remember my Mom today instead.

Update: In response to Donna's question - the clock is part of her purse. You can see it better here http://www.windycityart.com/nadine/default.htm
Art Hill > November 12, 2009 Bubbles
My grandson Kyle with the bubble machine we brought back from Disneyworld for him. We dropped it off Sunday so we could see him and Braden before they left for California at noon. On Monday one of my daughters was in Disneyland in California and the other was still at Disneyworld in Florida. (While we were home without much to do).
Lori is still down with the last of that swine flu. I picked them up at the airport Tuesday after a turbulent flight back from Florida. We talked to her last night and she seemed a little better but it's been a long time since Friday night when I took her to the hospital in Florida.
Art Hill > November 11, 2009 Shopping
Lindsey is a natural born shopper. This particular store is inside the huge Mickey Mouse hat in Disney's Hollywood Studio.
Art Hill > November 11, 2009 My new camera
I sure got tired of lugging this thing around Disneyworld :-)
It shoots 50 megapixel images. The digital card is the size of a book but it holds 79,000 images.
Art Hill > November 9, 2009 Enchanted Castle
It was getting pretty dark and as they kept changing lights I wasn't having very good luck handheld at ISO 3200 so I cranked the camera to ISO 12800 just to see what would happen. I've never used that setting before and didn't expect much but this didn't come out too bad. With all my previous cameras I didn't even bother to shoot anything higher than 800. With this one I can do at least some night stuff without lugging a tripod.
